It helps you to be mentally prepared for what is going to happen. We have laid out for you what to expect from the moment you check-in for the procedure to the recovery of the procedure.
Checking in
On the day of the surgery, when you would be checking-in, you would be asked to sign a couple of consent forms, which would state that you understand what the surgery entails and the kind of risks involved in it. You would also have to share the number of the person who would be driving you to and from the place of surgery. The procedure is usually done as an outpatient. Before the procedure begins, a staff member would over the procedure with you again and explain how anesthesia will be used.
The procedure
At the beginning of the procedure, the anesthesiologist will administer the anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has set in and you are in a deep sleep, the surgeon will perform the rhinoplasty or the nose job. The procedure will be carried out with utmost comfort. During the procedure, you would be hooked on to machines, which would monitor your vitals to make sure that you are safe.
Recovery
Once your surgery is done, you would be moved to the recovery room. Once the effect of anesthesia wears off you and you wake up, you might still feel woozy, but this effect doesn’t last too long. Your nose would be bandaged. There is a chance that you might feel some pain, discomfort, and swelling on the nose as it has been operated on. Once the dizzy feeling wears off, and you are entirely in your senses, the surgeon would speak to you about the procedure’s results. You would also be reminded of your nose’s aftercare and the precautions that you need to take. These instructions would be shared with you before the surgery as well. During this time, you would also be scheduled for a follow-up appointment.
Back Home
As the procedure is an outpatient procedure, you would be allowed to return home shortly after the procedure. However, you won’t be allowed to drive for at least 24 hours, so there must be someone who could drive you home. Now that you are back home, the essential thing that you need to do is get as much rest as possible. Make it a point to avoid any strenuous activity and even bending over. If possible, try sleeping in your recliner in a sitting up position as it would help to reduce the swelling. You would have to breathe from your mouth for a while, so ensure that you have water nearby as your mouth and throat might become dry and irritated. You might feel some discomfort during the recovery phase, but if you start to see any causes of concern, contact your surgeon immediately.
