Tassel Necklace DIY: Is It Possible?

Statement necklaces can make or break your outfit but as long as you wear it properly, it would surely be the former. There are various kinds of statement necklaces and one of the most popular ones is the tassel necklaces that come in a variety of colours. While you can simply purchase these necklaces from your favourite jewellery maker or accessory store, you also have the option of making a tassel necklace yourself. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how you will be able to do so.

  1. Prepare your materials.

The first thing that you need to do to create fantastic tassel necklaces is to prepare all the materials you need. Some of the things you need to have include embroidery thread, a pair of scissors, pen or pencil, seed and accent beads, jump rings, jewellery pliers, beading thread, and a darning needle. Make sure that each of your materials is within reach as you assemble your tassel necklace.

  1. Make your tassels.

As soon as you have all the materials you need, the next thing that you need to do is to create your tassels. Wrap a piece of 2x3in cardboard with embroidery thread in the colour and thickness that you prefer. Use a small length of thread to tie the top of the thread wrapping and replace the cardboard with a pen or pencil. Tie another string on the tassel under the pen to form the head of your tassel.

  1. Attach the jump ring.

Open a jump ring by twisting it so that its two ends separate from each other. Attach this jump ring to the head of your tassel then simply twist the ring again to put its two ends back together. Don’t try to pry the ring apart because this will distort its shape. From there, it would be difficult for you to make its shape round again.

  1. Arrange your tassels in a beading thread.

When it comes to your beading thread, you would want to cut it in a length that is twice as much as you originally intended for it will be easier for you to trim the excess this way. Add your tassels by sliding them over the seed beads just right up against an accent bead.

The Bottom Line

You can always purchase a tassel necklace to accentuate your overall look. However, there is also the option for you to make one on your own, making the necklace more meaningful. Just ensure that you have all the materials you need to make your tassels and in no time, you will have a spectacular tassel necklace that will bring out the best from your outfit.
