Protecting Your Home from Intruders
As a homeowner or one renting a home, the last thing you want is uninvited guests showing up.
Of more note would be someone trying to break in and cause havoc for you and any loved ones at home.
That said how can you best go about protecting your home from intruders?
Don’t Regret Not Making Your Place Safe
The last thing you want to do is look back and know that you could have done more to protect your place.
With that in mind, here are a few security measures to consider when reviewing the place you call home:
- Secure doors – How secure are the doors in your home? Depending on the size and layout of your home, you may have a few doors or in fact many of them. No matter the door count at home, make sure they are secure. That is why it makes sense to review all the doors to see how they lock. You may find that if you have one or more sliding doors, you are lacking when it comes to sliding door security. Such doors are easy to open and close. The last thing you want, however, is such doors that open too easy for intruders. Review how they lock to make sure yours are doing their job. You can go online and get tips from sliding door security pros to see what your options are. By having the most secure doors in your home whether they slide or not, you can rest a little easier.
- Windows security – Don’t sleep on the importance of secure windows either. If a window in your home is big enough for someone to crawl through, you have to know security is critical. From windows in your kitchen to those in your bedroom and elsewhere, be sure they are secure. It is also smart to make sure they have some kind of covering on them. That is especially true of those that are bigger and easy to see through. Blinds, curtains and shades are of course options. Remember, if someone can see through a window or two in your place, they could be able to track your movements.
- Varying your schedule – It is also smart whenever possible to vary your schedule. If your schedule becomes too obvious, you could be the next home invasion victim. Some criminals case homes to see when people come and go. If they get your schedule down, you may end up having them trying to get in your place when you are gone. If they are bold enough, they may try and strike when you are home. If you have children at home, the last thing you want is an intruder showing up. That is whether you have youngsters or your teen at home or several teenagers. The bottom line is making sure you do not make it easy for people to get into your home when they are not wanted.
If you need to do more to protect your home from intruders, start by doing a thorough review from top to bottom.
Chances are you will spot vulnerabilities that you do not want to become exposed.
