Everyone remembers Baywatch, the action drama about a lifeguards on running down the beach in slow motion. It was pretty popular for its time because of two big reasons – Pamela and Anderson. With the new Baywatch movie coming up, we have to ask ourselves – why don’t we do our own Singapore version of Baywatch?

True, we had Channel 8’s volleyball drama Beach.Ball.Babes, which had that infamous scene of the ladies running down Orchard Road. But how about an English lifeguard/beach drama? That’s a movie? Or a remake of Baywatch in Singapore, even?

We could save a lot on costumes and makeup (since there are very few outfits to be worn) and cast some really good folk in it. Here’s who should star in a Singaporean Baywatch.

1. Fiona Xie as C.J. Parker

In the original Baywatch, Pamela Anderson played C.J. Parker, and everyone has fond memories of her playing the role. So in the upcoming Baywatch movie, they’ve taken care of this valuable asset by casting Kelly Rohrbach in the role.

If we were to do a Singaporean version, of course Fiona Xie would grab the titillating role. Could you really see anyone else doing justice to C.J. Parker?

2. James Lye as Mitch Buchannon

In the original series, Mitch Buchannon was played by David Hasslehoff, and that mantle has been passed on to Dwayne Johnson, otherwise known as The Rock. So if we did a Singaporean remake, we’d need someone with the presence, gravitas, and pectorals of The Rock.

That’d be James Lye. We could have gone with Zheng Geping, but he’s done very few English speaking roles so let’s play it safe with our favourite Triple 9 policeman.

3. Wong Lilin as Stephanie Holden

Stephanie Holden is Mitch’s love interest in the film. Since we are all still shipping James Lye and Wong Lilin in real life, who better to play the role than her? She’s still a pretty hot mama, as her Instagram shows. And we might finally get an onscreen wedding if the duo get to play screen lovers again!

Her dance background also means we’d be seeing some pretty graceful running along the beach.

4. Joel Choo as Matt Brody

Does Joel Choo looks familiar? That’s because he’s the son of Zhu Houren. He currently stars in the Channel 5 drama Faculty as a swimmer, and toned up for that role. That makes him the perfect candidate to take on the role of Matt Brody, who’s played by Zac Efron in the film.

Bonus – he’s been going for swimming lessons, so he’s going to look pretty realistic when he dives into action!

5. Felicia Chin as Summer Quinn

Summer Quinn is Matt’s love interest, and although Felicia Chin might look a little more mature than Joel Choo, her upcoming Toggle drama 2589 Days pairs her up with a male co-star that’s 10 years younger than her.

We think she can pull off being Joel Choo’s character’s girlfriend.

6. Suhaimi Yusof as Ronnie

Every good film needs comic relief, which comes in the form of rotund disco dancer Ronnie. He’s played by Jon Bass in the film, but we think Suhaimi Yusof would do an even better job.

Besides, don’t you want to see Jojo Joget doing the joget on the beach?

Do all those beach bods have you hankering for a day at the beach? It’d be really itchy to hold a movie screening on the sand (no, really, we’ve tried), so here’s the next best thing – the GV Movie Club Beach Party: Baywatch at the GV Grand Garden Terrace at Great World City!

Come in your best swimgear (remember, the lesser the better) and show off your hotbod and you could win up to $120 in Baywatch movie premiums! You’ll also get a Beloved Girl face mask goodie bag when you attend. But remember to bring a jacket for later, because the theatre can get cold if you’re in a bikini/trunks!

Are you ready for a beaching good time with Baywatch?
