If you thought that showing up on time was the best you could do to maximise the value of your movie ticket, then you need to know a few things. Do you know when and how to get the deepest ticket discounts? Do you know how you can get into a movie theatre with premium sound system without paying extra?

Read on and you’ll know what we mean.

1. Auro 11.1 offers 3D sound at standard prices

Auro 11.1 is a special sound format by cinema projection company Barco. It is said that Auro 11.1 offers a natural immersive sound experience that is truly enveloping and realistic. The cinema sound format incorporates a unique height and overhead channel which allow for natural lifelike sound with sound waves coming from every direction, just like they do in everyday life. According to the Barco website, Auro 11.1 adds two more layers of sound to an existing 5.1 surround sound layer.

Not all movies are available in this sound format, however. (Click here to see a list of movies which are.) But when a movie is, you can experience it in Auro 11.1 at GV Suntec City Hall 2 at standard ticket price. This means that one can apply concession rates and discounts, such as $2 off on Mondays and $6.50 Tuesdays, when you’re purchasing tickets to this format.

Just to clear things up, it’s GVmax Dolby Atmos that costs $2 more than the standard price, and is only at GV VivoCity.

2. DBS/POSB Credit & Debit Card Movie Privileges are only applicable at non-walk-in points-of-sales

If you didn’t know this, you get $1 off every time you use a DBS/POSB credit or debit card to purchase your movie ticket. But this discount is only applicable if you make your purchases from places other than the theatre box office. Which means it’s available on the website, on the  iGV app, and at Automated Ticketing Machines. To save yourself the $1.50 convenience fee you are charged when you make an online transaction, you should use the Automated Ticketing Machines to get your tickets.

5. How to secure the best seats in the theatre

A cinema week is from Thursday to Wednesday. Movie sessions scheduled for Thursday and Friday are released on Wednesday, after 3pm, and movie sessions from Saturday to the following Wednesday are released on Friday, after 3pm. Sessions for Gold Class are released every Tuesday after 2pm for the full cinema week.

So how do you get those centre seats? Book them the instant they are released!

However, the best seat in the house may not necessarily be the last row in the back. But that’s another story for another time!
