You may still be reeling from Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, but May is marching on with a pretty decent slate of movies. From action-thrillers like Hotel Mumbai and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, to Disney’s live-action Aladdin and a subversive superhero movie produced by Guardians of the Galaxy alumni James Gunn – there’s something that you’ll surely want to watch.


Hotel Mumbai

Based on the true events, Hotel Mumbai recounts the 2008 siege of the famed Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, India by a group of terrorists. Director Anthony Maras brings the horrific event to life, focusing on the stories of the guests and staff trapped inside Taj Hotel for days as four armed terrorists wreaked havoc, killing at random. Among the dedicated hotel staff is the renowned chef Hemant Oberoi (Anupam Kher) and a waiter (Dev Patel) who chose to risk their lives to protect their guests. As the world watches on, a desperate couple (Armie Hammer and Nazanin Boniadi) is forced to make unthinkable sacrifices to protect their newborn child.

Director Behzad Khambata makes his directorial debut with action-thriller Blank, starring veteran actor Sunny Deol as the ATS Chief SS Dewan, who leads a team to save the country from extremists. 25-year-old Hanif (Karan Kapadia) is tasked to carry out a massive multiple suicide bomb attack alongside 24 other suicide bombers in the city of Mumbai. Finding Hanif will lead to the whereabouts of the locations of the other 24 bombs. The ATS has to crack this complex case or else the country is in danger.

Gotta catch em’ all! Pokemon Detective Pikachu is an upcoming live-action fantasy movie directed by Rob Letterman. The storyline is separate from the mainline video games and anime series. Starring Ryan Reynolds as the voice and facial motion capture of the titular character, the hyper-realistic live-action movie also features a diverse cast of Pokemon characters such as Snorlax, Jigglypuff and Psyduck.

A 21-year-old Tim (Justice Smith) sets out to find out the reason behind his father’s disappearance. To aid in his search is his Pokemon partner, Pikachu, a wise-cracking and adorable Pokemon who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are on the same unique wavelength which enables them to understand each other, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery.


The Hustle

Dog lovers, this is one movie you have been waiting for. A Dog’s Journey is based on the novel of the same name and is the sequel to A Dog’s Purpose (2017), featuring Josh Gad (voice of Bailey the dog), Dennis Quaid, Marg Helgenberger and Henry Lau.

Set after the events of the first film, Bailey lives his happy life on the Michigan farm of his “boy” Ethan, his wife Hannah, and their granddaughter Calista Jane “CJ”. The problem is that CJ’s mom (Betty Gilpin) decides to take and steal CJ away. As Bailey’s soul prepares to leave this life for a new one, he makes a promise to Ethan to find and protect CJ at any cost. The fun-loving talking pets from The Secret Life Of Pets (2016) are back in this animated sequel directed by Chris Renaud and co-directed by Jonathan Del Val. The film depicts the lives of our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. In this follow-up, Jack Russell Terrier Max (Patton Oswalt) faces some major changes after his owner Katie (Ellie Kemper) gets married. She now has a child named Liam, whom he becomes overly protective of. On a family trip to the countryside, Max meets a farm dog named Rooster (Harrison Ford in his first animated film role), and both attempt to overcome their fears.

Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate and Lake Bell reprise their roles from the film, whilst new cast members include Tiffany Haddish and Nick Kroll.
