April is the month where you’ll get bang for your buck at the cinema. This month, apart from the much-awaited Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, which assembles some of your favourite superheroes together for the last hurrah, there are plenty of Asian films, horror flicks and comedy hits.

The superhero movie based on the comics published by DC tells a story about teenage boy Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a streetwise foster kid with a difficult history. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana and prevent him from destroying Earth.

Thai comedy Friend Zone hit the no.1 box office in Thailand recently, featuring Naphat ‘Nine’ Siangsomboon and Pimchanok ‘Baifern’ Luevisadpaibul in the lead roles. For 10 years, Palm (Nine) has been stuck in the friend zone situation with his best friend, Gink (Baifern) where he can’t really stay friends with her, or move forward to be lovers. When they were in high school together, he attempted to confess his love for Gink but was rejected with “being friends is good enough”. Fast forward to the present, and they have grown closer as true best friends. Palm will always be there whenever Gink needed her, even if she was in another country. One day, Gink asks Palm out of the blue, “What if we were an item?” Right then, sparks flew wildly inside Palm’s mind, because this might be the only chance for him to cross the friend zone.

This movie is based on the true story of the Taj Hotel terrorist attack in Mumbai by a group of terrorists in 2008. Starring Academy Award-nominee Dev Patel, Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name) and Nazanin Boniadi (Homeland), the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. When the attacked happened, hotel staff risk their lives to keep everyone as safe as possible, and as the world watched, desperate people were forced to make unthinkable sacrifices to protect their loved ones.

She decides to reboot her life by taking over her father’s café and taking up pole dancing lessons as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and sexual liberation.

Choi has been nominated for numerous awards, including a Best Actress nomination at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her performance in this film.

The horror film delves into the corrupting power of grief and the very human plague of thanatophobia – the fear of death.

Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. Not only does she have to push herself and excel in the sport, she ultimately has to prove to the world that what makes her different is the very thing that can make her a star.

Dwayne Johnson acts and executive produces the film under his own production company. Fun fact: He came across Paige’s actual true story when he was flipping channels in a hotel room in London while filming Fast & Furious 6.
