A lucky audience not only got to watch Singaporean film Lucky Boy a day ahead of official release, but also pose questions to its director and two cast members after the show.

On Wednesday (May 17) night, Golden Village hosted a “Blog Aloud” session which saw Singaporean director Boris Boo, comedian Jeremy Chan, and YouTube star Terence Then (WahBanana) field questions about the movie and behind-the-scene tidbits.

Lucky Boy is the story of always-second-never-first Lin Yu (Wang Weiliang from Ah Boys To Men), who falls in love with pretty-but-feisty Zhang Qing Qing (Hong Kong actress Venus Wong) at the tender of seven. They are separated in primary school, but he continues pining and searching for her through his childhood, eventually finding her as a teenager but never confessing his love. Chan and Then play the roles of Lin Yu’s instigator and sidekick.

If you weren’t there last night, here’s what you missed. Answers have been shortened and paraphrased:

“Did you notice the ginormous zit on my (Jeremy Chan’s) face in the movie?” (I did, but Boo didn’t and realised that he some major post-production editing to do after he realised how large the zit was.)

“Why did someone die in a movie that’s meant to be a comedy?” (Because life is what you make of it, not what happens to you.)

“Which actor had the most NG outtakes during filming?” (Wang Weiliang.)

“How come the same box of Ding Dang candy stayed inside the same drawer for decades?” (It’s an icon of the main character’s childhood and part of his identity.)

“Who is the illustrator of the drawings in the movie?” (Lee Xin Li of Pok Pok & Away illustrated most of the drawings, but Boris Boo also drew a replacement picture when the original was damaged. Is this director multi-talented or what?)

It seems like Boo and the actors had fun during the 20-minute Blog Aloud session last night! For more upcoming Blog Aloud sessions, be sure to stay tuned to The Popping Post and the Golden Village website. Lucky Boy opens today.
