Singapore’s largest cinema operator will open its newest and 12th multiplex at the third level of SingPost Centre come October 6. Boasting eight screens, GV Paya Lebar is Singapore’s first all-laser projection cineplex, where Barco’s Smart Laser Projection delivers a high definition cinematic experience for film aficionados.

Barco Smart Laser Projection delivers picture quality which far outperforms traditional digital projections, according to what we saw with our own eyes at a demonstration given during the press tour on Wednesday (Oct 4). The new system creates higher contrast, clearer, crisper imagery with higher colour saturation, providing viewers with a far superior visual effect.

Can you tell at a glance which half is a laser-projected image?

If you look at the demo, you’ll see that the left side of the screen appears brighter, with more detail and more uniformity. This feature is particularly noticeable in dark scenes. Images on the right side, in comparison, look duller, more blurred, Remember the time you had to squint while watching The Dark Knight (2008)? Laser projection will light up even the corners of Batman’s cave. GV says that they intend to gradually make a complete transition to smart laser projection for all of their cinemas.

While GV Paya Lebar is only about the size of GV Tiong Bahru at 23,185 sq ft and has 756 seats, it packs in a couple of unique features worth shouting about.
A new seating concept called Duo Deluxe gives movie-goers enhanced privacy and comfort with twin leatherette seats and wide armrests. Tickets to this exclusive 58-seat theatre are sold singly at $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends. In case you’re wondering, the seats are not adjustable.

The other seven auditoriums are decked with ergonomically designed ProBax seats – the same award-winning seats which first made their debut in GV Suntec. They are designed in such a way as to provide lumbar support, improve blood circulation while sitting, and reduce fidgeting.

If you’re hungry, GV Paya Lebar’s walk-in grab & Gold café provides a variety of mouth-watering food and beverage options. Some of the items here are inspired by the cinema’s locality and can’t be found at other GV outlets. You’ll find the Kopi Gao Siew Dai cake ($8), Puteri Salat cake ($8), and Thai Tea Pound Cake ($6) here. If you can’t finish your food before your movie starts, you can dabao and bring it into the cinemas. All of the menu items are at less than $10, with the most expensive item being fish and chips at $9.90 and the least pricey item being a mini donut at $1.30. We anticipate that the banana fritters ($5.50), truffle fries ($8), beef chilli cheese fries ($7.50) and otah samosa ($7) will be hits.

You can get banana fritters here! Price upon application.
