The hashtags on the poster say #BossySister, #DemonBrother and #PerfectBoyfriend, but do the Brother of the Year leads Nichkhun, Yaya and Sunny deserve these epithets in real life? As we found out, Nickhun is the #ObsessiveGoogler; Sunny is a #NeatFreak and Yaya is the #CoddledChild.

Thai-American heartthrob Nichkhun Horvejkul was in town on Monday, speaking to media alongside director Vithaya Thongyuyong and co-stars Sunny Suwanmethanont and Urassaya Sperbund (Yaya) at a press conference held at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore.

When quizzed on whether their real selves bore any resemblance to their onscreen personas, each had a confession to make. Nichkhun is a bit of nerd in real life, just like his bookish character Moji in his new movie Brother of the Year.

“I like to google stuff. I hate not knowing. If we are talking about something, I will put out my phone right away and search it. I’ll try to remember it. I like to put random facts in my head,” said the suave boybander, who debuted as part of K-pop group 2pm in 2008.

The cast’s chemistry – on-screen and offscreen – has translated into box-office numbers. The Thai rom-com has earned itself the title of best-selling domestic film in 2018.

The story goes that company executive Moji falls hopelessly in love with his new colleague Jane (Urassaya Sperbund). And she falls right back in love with him.

But the blossoming relationship hits a roadblock — Jane’s meddlesome older brother, Chut (Sunny Suwanmethanont).

The quarrelsome siblings have always had a love-hate relationship. Bossy Jane is the more intelligent of the two, excelling in sports and academics. Even as fully grown adults, Jane has to clean up after her slob of a brother.

The on-screen siblings reel personas could not be more different from their real life personalities.

Norwegian-Thai actress Yaya doesn’t have to boss people around to get her way. The fresh-faced lass gets it without even trying – because she is the baby of the family.

“It’s the best thing in the world. I get coddled by everyone. I’m everyone’s baby girl. I probably was a terrible sister when I was younger, I always want things done my way. And I usually get it,” said Yaya, who has two older brothers and an older sister.

“But we are all grown up now, and we are all really supportive of each other. Nobody lives in the same country, so we take time to have monthly meetings over the phone.”

Fans of Thailand’s Johnny Depp, Sunny, will be pleased to know that he is no slob offscreen. In fact, the French-Thai actor’s fixation on neatness borders on OCD.

Nichkhun said: “He likes things to be neat. He told me he would arrange his comic books, from volume one to 30. He organises everything. Totally the opposite.”

With a glint in her eye, Yaya said: “He doesn’t like it when people fold paper. He doesn’t bring his script, because he is scared we are going to touch it.”

Both Nichkhun and Yaya are also quick to attest that Sunny is “really sweet”, unlike his #DemonBrother persona. “He will have to pay me after this,” said Nichkhun with a chortle.

And is Nichkhun the #PerfectBoyfriend, like Moji in the movie? “I really can’t remember the last time I did something romantic,” he said with a sheepish smile.

Now isn’t that great news, ladies? #PerfectBoyfriend is #PerfectlySingle.
