Before the Russo Brothers embarked on the Avengers: Infinity War press tour in early April, they sent out an informal statement on Instagram (#ThanosDemandsYourSilence), explaining that they would be screening limited footage of the film and hoped that viewers would be considerate enough to not leak spoilers.

So, when The Popping Post was invited to watch 30 minutes of the film on Saturday (April 14), we were, like the rest of the members of press invited from all over Asia-Pacific, asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement. It stated that we should refrain from revealing what we saw in the footage until the morning of the release of the film on April 25, but in the meantime, we were free to share our reactions on social media.

We are keeping our word and not going to tell you what we saw in that precious half hour, but we are allowed to share materials that we received from the press junket, which continued the morning right after the screening, at the press conference held at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre , attended by Iron Man aka Robert Downey Jr., Doctor Strange aka Benedict Cumberbatch, and Nebula aka Karen Gillan. The actors were accompanied by director Joe Russo and executive producer Trinh Tran.

Leak #1: Someone is someone’s someone

The press conference was well attended by hundreds of reporters from the region, including those from Australia and Indonesia. But the host, One FM 91.3 deejay Glenn Ong, had a tendency to pick faces that he knew from the crowd.

One of them was his colleague Jill Lim of Kiss92 (also a Singapore Press Holdings radio station like One FM 91.3), who asked two questions which made Avengers fans groan inwardly. The first question, which revealed her ignorance and laziness at doing homework, was about an electronic device Tony Stark used in the movie. The second question revealed an important plot development involving a personal relationship between *ahem* and *ahem*.

This was groaned about on Mothership.com here and you can hear her questions at the 9-minute mark at this video posted by CNA Lifestyle below:

Lim later apologised in this video, which was posted on the Kiss92 Facebook page:

Leak #2: Those LEGO sets

The other highlight of the press conference was a media room decked out with all sorts of movie paraphernalia, such as Thanos’s Infinity Gauntlet, Iron Man’s suit, CYC shirts featuring some of the Avengers, Brickheadz, and LEGO sets. Press milled around, taking lots of photos with the flashier and larger displays, but if people paid more attention to the LEGO x Marvel playsets, they would have realised that they were depictions of actual movie scenes.

Earlier in January, Geek Culture revealed the LEGO and Marvel, Avengers: Infinity War playsets, but they were just of pictures from Imgur. Then, in March, these were launched at the LEGO Singapore store in Suntec City Mall… But did people realise their significance?

Leak #3: There’s gonna be a ******* brawl

While doing research for the press junket on Saturday evening (April 14), this writer actually came across a video where an interviewer from the UK or US actually mentions a significant plot development in her question to Robert Downey Jr. The video can’t be found now so we can’t show it to you – it may have been removed in order to protect the storyline. But we know enough to say that this member of press watched another 30 minutes of footage further down the film from us in Singapore.

Of course, even if you’ve pieced together all these leaks, it’s still not quite possible to put together a detailed storyline of Avengers: Infinity War, which has been kept under such wraps that even the actors themselves have not read the full script. But if you have no clue what we’ve been going on and on about in this article – sorry, you have to wait until April 25 when the movie is released here and the embargo lifted. Stay tuned!
