Being a Jedi is really awesome. You get to swing around a lightsaber (effectively a colourful laser sword), and you have access to a mystical energy source called the Force that allows you to accomplish virtually anything that you can think of. While it’d be really cool to cosplay as a Jedi, imagine how much easier life would be if you could actually wield the Force! So here are five ways that the Force would come handy in Singapore.

1. Use Jedi Mind Trick on aunties for discounts

Sometimes I think auntie shopkeepers already know how to use the Jedi Mind Trick on me. Somehow they always convince me to add an extra egg or buy a cute but impractical item. So it’d be really great if I could Jedi Mind Trick them back into getting better discounts! Haggling is a fact of life whenever you meet an auntie, but they’ve got years of experience on their side. Having an additional advantage in using the Jedi Mind Trick would help balance the playing field.

Caution: Jedi Mind Tricks don’t work on everyone. Watto was immune to it in The Phantom Menace, so there’s a high chance that some aunties might resist your charms too.

2. Force Choke metal claws on train tracks

Using the Force for our rail maintenance comes with a lot of benefits. First, there’s no material cost involved – it’s just human labour! Secondly, since there’s no need for physical contact, it’s a much safer way of repairing the metal grips. Thirdly, it’s a good way to relieve stress when you Force Choke those metal claws into position. It’s probably the most productive way of upkeeping our tracks, and its cheap, too!

3. Use Force Lightning to charge your phone instantly

A power bank is just as necessary as a smartphone these days, what with the abysmal battery life that devices have now. So imagine how handy it’ll be if you had the ability to recharge it on the fly! Emperor Palpatine might have used it as a means of eliminating his enemies, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use Force Lightning for more utilitarian purposes. Plus it’s not just your smartphone that you can charge – laptops, console game controllers and anything that needs electricity can benefit from your Force Lightning skills.

4)Force Push your way through crowds

Sometimes you’re in a rush and you really just need to make your way through the mountains and seas of people in your way. You can shove your way through, but you’re going to get Stomped if there’s an indignant keyboard warrior in that crowd. So a Force Push is just the thing you need to clear a path through, without offending anyone! Plus nobody will know that it originates from you, if you’re discreet enough.

5. Force Jump over annoying obstacles

But even if you could Force Push everyone out of the way, sometimes there just some situations where no amount of pushing can get you through (like some nasty ponding on the road). This is where a Force Jump would help! And if you were born a few decades earlier, you could even have cleared your Standing Broad Jump with ease…

But what’s really interesting is how our two new Jedi, Finn and Rey, will be wielding the Force in Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it opens tomorrow! Will they come up with creative new uses of the Force, or will they be at the mercy of Kylo Ren’s use of the Dark Side? You’ll just have to catch the film to find out how useful the Force can be!
