Fandoms, rejoice. Our prayers have not only been answered on the Western front with comic-book movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2, but also on the Asian front with anime feature films like Detective Conan: Zero The Enforcer and Crayon Shinchan The Movie: Bakumori! Kung Fu Boys – Ramen Chaos –!

Odex (the guys who have been bringing anime films to Singapore since 2000) has teamed up with Golden Village to bring this summer’s best anime films (complete with English subtitles for those who haven’t mastered Advanced Japanese yet) to Singapore, because these are the films you can’t miss out on. There are old favourites and some interesting new offerings which are set to be the next big anime/manga franchise. Here are all the films you mustn’t miss – or you can’t call yourself a true anime fan.

Shinchan and the gang join their friend Masao in learning the legendary “Puni Puni Fist” martial art, and their rigorous training comes in handy when a bad batch of ramen makes the neighbourhood violent.

Everyone’s favourite puny pervert Shinnosuke is back for his 26th film! Although many of us grew up watching the Mandarin-dubbed version of the anime series (known as 蜡笔小新), ardent fans and friendly cinemas have worked hard to bring the series in all its Japanese original glory to Singapore. In true Crayon Shinchan style, the movie title is a hilariously lengthy and exaggerated description of the film’s events. While Shinnosuke may have to learn the Puni Puni Fist in Crayon Shinchan The Movie: Bakumori! Kung Fu Boys – Ramen Chaos –, we’re betting that he’s going to save the day using his trademark gesture – flashing his bare buttocks at anyone who gets in his way!

Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple

It has been six years since an 88-day dispute that brought with it a storm of blood. There have been cases across the world of a mysterious mist appearing and ability users using their own powers to take their own lives. So far, the number of victims have surpassed 500. The government has called this the “Ability-User Serial Suicide Incident”. The Armed Detective Agency receives a request to capture a mysterious man named Tatsuhiko Shibusawa, who is suspected to be involved. However, Osamu Dazai goes missing. Then there is also the demon Fyodor skulking in the shadows. An unprecedented new enemy attacks ability-users one after another. As the city is about to get swallowed up in a nightmare, Atsushi and Kyoka rush to Shibusawa’s fortress. However, Akutagawa appears and tells them a truth that they couldn’t have even imagined.

The cast and crew of the Bungo Stray Dogs anime series reunite for their feature film debut, with new character Tatsuhiko Shibusawa (voiced by Kazuya Nakai) joining the cast as they investigate this terrible new threat. Like all the other characters, he’s based on a real-life literary author, Tatsuo Shibusawa, who was famous for his works on black magic and demonology. And since Fyodor is involved, you just know that there’ll be something… demonic about what’s happening.

The biggest question everyone wants to know (besides the explanation for what Dead Apple is) is – what’s his special ability? And how is he related to the suicides of the Ability users?

Since Tsubaki’s disappearance, Mahiru has thought he regains his peaceful life. But one day, a sudden unseasonable snow starts falling in the town. Mahiru thinks the abnormal weather may be related to vampires and calls out to Misono Alicein who also knows about vampires. With that as a start, Misono has lost contact with Mahiru. Then Misono’s brother Mikuni appears in front of Mahiru who worries about Misono, and reveals the secret that has been hidden in the Alicein Family.

Could another Servamp be behind the snowstorm, or is it someone from the Alicein’s family? But with the eight Servamps mostly accounted for at the end of the anime, what other sin could this mysterious new Servamp be part of? Or perhaps it’s a spurned Eve who’s at work here. One thing’s for sure – anyone (or anything) powerful enough to generate abnormal weather is definitely powerful enough to cause trouble for our main characters. Will they be able to stand together against this new threat, or will the revelations of the Alicein family history tear them apart in Servamp: – Alice In The Garden?

If it’s a new Servamp at work, I’m voting that he (or possibly she) be linked to the Sin of Vainglory.

Detective Conan: Zero The Enforcer

There is a sudden explosion at Tokyo Summit’s giant Edge of Ocean facility. The shadow of Tōru Amuro, who works for the National Police Agency Security Bureau as Zero, appears at the site. In addition, the “triple-face” character known as Rei Furuya is believed to be a detective, Kogorō Mōri’s apprentice, and also known to be Bourbon as a Black Organization member. Kogorō is arrested as a suspect in the case of the explosion. Conan conducts an investigation to prove Kogorō’s innocence, but Amuro gets in his way.

The 22nd Detective Conan sees Rei returning once more, after his absence in Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter (which was a little difficult to understand if you’ve never played the Japanese card game karuta before). It looks the series is back on track with good old-fashioned espionage and the involvement of the Black Organisation (who was sorely missed in the previous movie), but we’re probably not going to see Detective Conan return to being an adult in this film (otherwise it’d be in the title, I guarantee you).

Will we find out who The Enforcer is in Detective Conan: Zero The Enforcer, or will this new villain escape without being apprehended?
